Anju Bobby George is the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal in a World Athletics Championship. She now ranks 4th in the world of Long Jump. She comes from the neighboring state of Kerala. She achieved her personal best jump of 6.83 m at the 2004 Olympic Games.
She has received Arjuna award (2002-2003), Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award (2003-2004) and Padma Shri (2004)..
